University of the West of Scotland

UWS Logo The University of the West of Scotland (UWS), the largest modern new university in Scotland with 18,000 students, dates its beginnings back to 1897. Once the University of Paisley, UWS grew in 2007 to four campuses, each with its practice based area of speciality: Paisley, (one commuter stop from Glasgow), Ayr, (by the sea) Hamilton (urban) and Dumfries (on 80 countryside acres). They comprise a £200 million investment in facilities to serve the community and the world.

You will be assured unique and practical courses to equip you for the workforce, many carrying professional status. UWS’ Creative Industries School has t.v studios better than the BBC’s (according to the BBC),  you can connect worldwide to other MBA students with the new UWS Online World or engineer a race car, for example.

Undergrad Honours Duration: generally if you are an international student with a second class honours, you can complete your undergraduate honours degree in three years.  Please contact us for specifics.

Graduate Master degrees duration are usually one year full time in duration, with flexible entry requirements.

Course Description for the UWSMBA-OW

The new University of the West of Scotland (UWS) MBA, delivered in partnership with Olympia College Malaysia, has been redesigned to reflect the ever-changing nature of business, and the global challenges which business leaders are facing. It is a degree that is completely on-line, delivered face to face on weekends because the Malaysian experience has shown a preference for this blended learning approach.

The UWS MBA On-line World will be conducted at Olympia College centres across its 4 campuses in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Petaling Jaya, Johor Bahru from January 2015. Register Now!

The course focuses on developing strategic analytical skills as well as business intuition and enquiring and adaptive thinking. The new MBA has been structured and designed to allow you, through the selection of option modules, to focus in one of three areas: Finance; Leadership; or Enterprise. This allows you to align your MBA studies to your current career, or career aspirations.

The UWS Business School has been providing MBA education to a global audience since the late 1980s primarily through part-time and online/distance learning modes of study. We were the first provider of an MBA online in Hong Kong in the early 1990’s.

Removing the traditional barriers between different cohorts of learners (classroom-based and distance learning) means that the new MBA will create a unified model of learning for all students. Full- and part-time students in Malaysia will learn and engage with full-time, part-time and online/distance learning students being taught by UWS staff based in the UK and world-wide.  You will augment learning by accessing study materials, and submitting coursework etc. to UK via the UWS Online MBA World.

Course Content

As well as providing essential core business knowledge and understanding, the course modules place a strong emphasis on developing the applied managerial skills that are vital to be an effective business leader. Using a variety of methods such as role play exercises, case studies, and in-company analysis etc., your communication, negotiation and facilitating skills will be developed and enhanced throughout the course. The modules will be assessed through a variety of techniques including online tests, reports, presentations and projects.

You can focus your MBA in one of three areas: Finance; Leadership; or Enterprise. The new MBA modules (Core and Options) below are shown in terms of stages; in terms of a one year, full-time, course of study, relating to three trimesters.
